It was a vote of confidence,
in The Minimalist Garden,
from an unexpected quarter!
A construction worker on a neighbouring building
called out that he wanted to have his lunch in the garden
we had designed for our clients
‘because it was so peaceful and zen – like.’
And looking down from above this is what you see.
The view from above was actually always going to be important because our clients’ sitting room is on the first floor. So one of our key concerns was an attractive pattern.
But it also had to be a simple pattern.
Almost an abstract arrangement of shapes and lines – since this was a key element of the brief we received. Of course since it is essentially a town garden and a garden for a new build (and they are always petite!) we had quite a lot to fit into quite a small garden.
But we are pleased that we have done that and yet retained the sense of calm that the construction worker clearly appreciated.
On our revisit a couple of months after completion we were also pleased to see that although it is early days for the planting to fill in (most gardens take several years after all) there are already the flashes of seasonal colour which our clients wanted.
However, never mind us and the construction guy! What do the clients think?
Our clients write: “We have both really enjoyed the whole design process. We chose you because we felt that you would be happy to embrace a collaborative approach, we liked your thoughtful approach to other garden designs and that you were happy to accept our budget constraints. We made the right decision!
The garden is perfect. Thank you both very much.”
